GUSTAV RUPPEL September 22, 1920 - December 17, 2005 Gus passed away peacefully on Saturday December 17, 2005 at The Sharon Home in Winnipeg. His passing was sudden, and sooner than expected, but a blessed alternative to his anticipated suffering. He will be missed by his wife Magdalene, sons Dan, Terry, Bruce, and Randy and daughter, Annalynn, and sisters Dorothy and Lorraine, brother Bill and other extended family members and friends, too numerous to mention. Gus was predeceased by his mother Anna, father John, and brothers John and Art. Gus was born in Rhein, SK, but grew up in Winnipeg. He worked as a labourer, truck driver, served in the Air Force and later became a City of Winnipeg Fire Fighter, where he worked until his retirement. He was very proud of his profession and especially the time he spent on the Fire Rescue Squad. Gus was also very committed to his Christian faith, and tried to live it out with his services to others. He was always helping someone in need, either financially or by mediating with social service agencies on their behalf. He was always willing to listen to their story, and tell Jesus' story as he helped with their problems. His concern for the welfare of the less fortunate led him to stint in municipal politics in Old Kildonan , where he felt he could have more influence on their behalf, which in many cases he did. Gus and Mag took in many foster children over the years, and only The Lord knows the full extent of the positive impact their care had on these children. Gus was always known for his unconventional ways and will be remembered by many whose lives he touched, when others would have passed by on the other side . God grant him peace now as he enters his eternal reward. Funeral Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare West, Transcona at 11:00 a.m. , Thursday December 22, followed by a luncheon in the church hall, interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers and gifts may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4G2. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
